Journal Of Aesthetics And Protest

http://www.journalofaestheticsandprotest.org/

Description

The JOAP for me began as a way to promote the potential cross polination between several strong interests of mine: art and non-capitalist living, direct action protest, direct action culture, schizo theory, media culture, counter culture, weirdo art, critical theory, active culture. The mid to late nineties saw an immense growth of protest culture, and counter culture beneath the radar of the .com boom. Art school finished for me in 99 and the WTO protests along wiith RTS, Biotic Baking Brigade, Interventionist Art, direct Action Art, and post-modern, post-gramscian Zapatista politcs became very public. Involved with www.indymedia.org, I wanted to take this "speak for yourself" energy and transfer it to examining culture. Hence the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest- a "wierdo think tank".
